Texas A&M's run-rule loss to the UCLA Bruins stung Aggie fans plenty, as did the comments after the game by a former Texas Longhorn player who took aim at A&M baseball, but things began to look up on Sunday. Michael Earley's squad took on an Arizona State team that was riding high after knocking off no. 4 Mississippi State in resounding fashion on Friday, but the Aggies dispatched with them quickly by a final score of 9-3.

Going 2-1 on the weekend was enough for the Ags to keep some momentum going forward. The UCLA game was always going to be more of a benchmark against elite competition than anything else, given that they are a well-deserving no. 1 team in the country, and it didn't help that the Aggies probably played their worst game of the season thus far in that one, apart from anything the Bruins did.

Texas A&M continues rise in college baseball rankings after 2-1 spate at Globe Life Field

The emphatic nature of the Aggies' wins over the Virginia Tech Hokies and the aforementioned Sun Devils has the Aggies once again moving in a positive direction in the latest D1Baseball rankings.

The Miami Hurricanes fell down to 24 after dropping a home series to Florida this weekend, which means the Aggies moved up yet one more spot. This marks the third straight week that the Aggies have moved up one spot in the D1Baseball rankings a trend that many A&M fans would like to see continue as the season goes on.

Baseball rankings are not very reactive early in the season— TCU and Oregon State are crurently ranked ahead of the Aggies, but are 6-5 and 6-4 respectively. As the SEC schedule begins to play out, though, Texas A&M will have plenty of opportunity to jump ahead of teams with weaker records than theirs— the six teams directly ahead of A&M in the current rankings all have more losses than the Aggies.

For now, though, slow and steady is just fine. The Aggies failed their big test, but they continue to make progress nonetheless. Texas A&M will take on Incarnate Word in a midweek contest tomorrow night before a weekend series against Oakland starts Friday.
