Texas A&M football has had an amazing run to build the star-studded 2027 class that they now have— but it hasn’t been a perfect run by far. Though the number is far lower than the wins they’ve gotten, the Aggies have lost out on some of the top names that they were in the mix for.
The latest two examples were both five-star talents: John Meredith, the nation’s top corner, ended up committing to the Aggies’ in-state rival Texas, and Albert Simien, one of the best interior linemen in the country, chose the Notre Dame Fighting Irish over Texas A&M. Both of these stung, as the Aggies had received predictions to land each of these players at different points and were considered to be clear leaders.
Though the Aggies have gotten their wins over both of these programs in this cycle as well— Kaden Henderson over Notre Dame, for instance, and Kennedy Brown over Texas— these were both gut punches. Aggie fans are happy for the big recruits they’ve won, but there are some dark clouds growing over potential upcoming announcements as well.
Texas A&M fans begin to worry as disturbing signs manifest in two 5-star recruitments
The Aggies have been considered the leader for the nation’s no. 2-ranked corner, Joshua Dobson, for some time now. With an announcement coming down the pike for this Wednesday, though, there are some disquieting signs beginning to come to the fore in this recruitment.
Texas A&M’s competition in this one has been the Michigan Wolverines and the South Carolina Gamecocks, and while the Aggies are not accustomed to losing recruitments to either of these programs, there’s a real feeling out there that the gap has tightened for this race. Unlike the prevailing feeling with Eric McFarland ahead of his commitment, there’s a lot more intrigue in this one.

Dobson would make a fourth five-star DB commitment in this class for the Aggies, so picking him up would be nothing short of massive. But with the countdown now on, the confidence that Texas A&M fans once had here is now slipping— though, at the moment, he is still heavily favored to commit to the Aggies per his Recruiting Prediction Machine.
The other recruitment that is beginning to head in a bad direction is Ismael Camara. The five-star tackle from Gilmer has hinted recently that he may be close to a decision, and the Aggies are not at the front of the line in the minds of many insiders. In fact, it’s the hated Texas Longhorns for whom predictions have begun to flow in for the big time tackle.
5⭐️ OT Ismael Camara is trending towards Texas ahead of a commitment coming very soon. Camara is the #3 ranked uncommitted player in the country.

SMU has been the Longhorns primary competition with LSU, Texas A&M, Oregon, and Tennessee also in contention.

The Aggies never had the kind of confidence in this one that they did for Dobson, in all fairness, but while both are still as of yet undecided, it’s discouraging to see this take place. Camara has kept a lot of people guessing throughout his process, though, so it could be the case that the Aggies roar back into the middle of this one.
However, right now, this is all just a big bummer. Hopefully, Mike Elko and company have something up their sleeve for Dobson and are ready to surprise with Camara— even if not, this is still a special class, but one of these two could take it to the next level.
