Texas A&M is on the verge of a historic recruiting class in the 2027 cycle, and every passing day seems to hold some piece of positive news on that front. After the commitment of Mark Matthews, the Aggies are looking to add several more five-star players— and they’re in on two premier talents from the DB ranks.
John Meredith and Joshua Dobson are the top two corners in the nation, and the Aggies are at the forefront of both recruitments. Meredith has become a battle with Texas, and Dobson up until this point has been a contest against the LSU Tigers.
A recent development, though, has the Aggie fanbase feeling more and more optimistic about the Dobson recruitment. Though the Tigers were viewed as the main competition for Dobson up until this point, the five-star corner raised eyebrows by cancelling his previously-scheduled official visit down to Baton Rouge.
Texas A&M 5-star CB target Joshua Dobson cancels LSU visit as Aggie trends grow stronger
Dobson canceling his visit to the Bayou Bengals came as a surprise to many Aggie fans, as they anticipated that the Charlotte-area talent would end up as a battle between Lane Kiffin and Mike Elko, but it's looking like that may be more one-sided now.

Dobson was predicted recently to land with the Aggies, with many insiders swapping their prediction from the Tigers when that took place. If that does come to pass, it will mean the Aggies have a fourth five-star commit in the secondary, making this one of the best secondary classes of all time.
There's still a long way to go in this recruitment, of course. Dobson didn't just cancel his visit and leave an open weekend; he actually scheduled a visit to the Michigan Wolverines during this time, who are making a little bit of noise after hosting him recently.
Texas A&M has other Dobson suitors to worry about
What's more, the Aggies still have to weather a visit to the in-state South Carolina Gamecocks— though Dobson goes to a North Carolina school, he just transferred there from Rock Hill, South Carolina, so the Gamecocks have a proximity factor at play there.
Though the Aggies do not get into many recruiting battles with the Gamecocks, Shane Beamer and company have their fair share of skins on the wall when it comes to this kind of thing, having won out for true-blue five-star players like Dylan Stewart in the past. This is no doubt viewed by many in Columbia as the statement recruitment of the cycle for Beamer, so the Aggies ought to be ready— Carolina will pull out all the stops when Dobson visits in mid-June.
The Aggies are in prime position right now, though. Texas A&M has been recruiting lights-out this entire cycle, and they don't seem like they are going to stop now. This will be a battle all the way to the end, as you'd expect with any recruit of Dobson's caliber, but all recent developments seem to be pointing in a massively positive direction for the Aggies.
