Texas A&M has received a prediction to land five-star defensive back Joshua Dobson from Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, the no. 6 overall player in the class of 2027 and the no. 2 cornerback. This comes on the heels of increased momentum behind the scenes between Dobson and the Aggies as Texas A&M looks to close out their defensive back class in a big way.

Dobson had previously had a prediction to land with the LSU Tigers and Lane Kiffin, as the Bayou Bengals held a considerable amount of sway in this one. However, Mike Elko and the Aggies look like they are poised to thwart LSU's momentum here and land the coveted defensive back.

If Dobson were to commit to Texas A&M, he would become the fourth five-star commit in the position group, and the highest-rated of all of them— a mind-boggling statistic that serves to underline just how elite this class would be.

Texas A&M receives earth-shattering prediction to land 5-star Joshua Dobson over Lane Kiffin and LSU

This is notable on three fronts. First of all, you have the obvious significance for Texas A&M's current recruiting class— Dobson would become the highest-rated commitment of the class for the Aggies, which deserves mention in its own right.

Second, you have the fact that the Aggies are big timing Kiffin and the Tigers for one of the top players in the class. Dobson isn't a local battle, being from the Carolinas, but given how things seemed to be trending LSU's way here, this would be quite the coup.

Third, you have the fallout in the race for the nation's top cornerback, John Meredith. The Texas Longhorns have come on strong for Meredith in recent weeks, and it seems like the industry is expecting Texas to win out in that one— this could serve as further confirmation, which is a bit of a bummer for the Aggies.

It seems inconceivable that both Meredith and Dobson end up in the same class, but if anyone could do it, it's the Aggies, who have been the leaders for both players at different points. Landing Dobson makes it much less likely to land Meredith as well, but the door won't be completely shut in any case.

It seems like Dobson is officially on commitment watch for the Ags, which is big news. Watch this one closely in the coming days— news could be coming down the pike at any point.
