Longhorns just laid it all on the line to slow Texas A&M's recruiting momentum

This was unexpected on the part of Texas A&M fans, but you can always count on the Longhorns for a move like this when things are going well.

Texas A&M football has long been considered the leader for the nation's top cornerback, John Meredith out of North Crowley. The insiders have all favored the maroon and white for quite some time in this important race for a player who has spent quite a bit of time ranked as the nation's top overall player.

However, the complexion of this recruitment just changed in a big way. Though the Aggies were considered the team to beat for quite a while, Steve Wiltfong and Sam Spiegleman of Rivals have shifted their predictions to the Texas Longhorns to land Meredith ahead of his official visit to Austin, currently scheduled for June 5.

The Aggies are still also on Meredith's calendar as the final visit for the five-star cornerback, but this is a disheartening sight to see— and it no doubt comes as a response by the Longhorns to the momentum that the Aggies are building in this current class.

The Aggies in recent days have landed five-star prospects Zyron Forstall and Kennedy Brown, a defensive end and offensive tackle respectively, and they are trending in a big way for the nation's no. 3 overall player, offensive tackle Mark Matthews.

It seems like the momentum that the Aggies are building for the nation's number one overall class is something that no team can stop, as they continue ascending to dizzying heights— but if they lose Meredith, there's no doubt it will be considered a big time blow.

You can always count on the Texas Longhorns to do what they can to throw a monkey wrench into the works when things are going well for the Aggies. There's no doubt they are willing to do everything it takes— and more— to not only land Meredith, but make sure that the maroon and white don't land him.

The Aggies are still going to get an opportunity to have the final say, as of right now, but recruiting is— as always— an up-to-the-minute industry. The Aggies will certainly have to sweat things out over the next month or so until they can make their closing pitch to the nation's top-ranked corner— to join what is already a historic defensive back class.

Even if they lose out on Meredith, Josh Dobson— the nation's no. 2-ranked corner— is also feeling the Aggies right now in a big way. It seems unlikely that the Aggies land both, but just getting one of those two will be big.
