With the NFL Draft right around the corner, athletes are getting their chance to shine on the NFL stage.
One of those names is EJ Smith, one of the many RBs for the Aggies. He just got placed in the best possible position and received an invite-only workout with the Dallas Cowboys.
Smith is at a huge advantage here, largely because his dad is a legendary Cowboys face, as well as the NFL's all-time leading rusher. He's already made a great impression with Brian Schottenheimer and Co., and he may be the late Day 3 pick if the cards fall in his favor.
Cowboys visit with Texas A&M RB EJ Smith ahead of NFL Draft
It's about the easiest decision for both parties, as Smith has an obvious home in Dallas, and Jerry Jones would love to bring a member of the Smith family back to Dallas. If not selected in the draft, Smith could make it as a UDFA.
EJ Smith wasn't always the flashiest guy on the field, but better yet, he sacrificed his body to make the necessary play.
Take the UTSA game, for example, Smith had a play that went viral on social media, as he blocked out three guys on a KC Concepcion punt return on his way to a touchdown. Mike Elko made sure to boast about it after the game and made sure Smith got his flowers.
Smith may not be a running back at first, but it's possible to see him on special teams. There are only so many spots for that in the NFL, but Smith has all the tools to make it. He has elite blocking skills and speed to get down the field.
It may be the best route for him to start on special teams to get more reps as a running back later on. He can be proficient in third-down pass blocking, and that would take the load off of Javonte Williams in that department.
It would be the perfect homecoming for Smith, and it'd be nice for the Cowboys to at least give him a shot.
