Early on in the CFP showdown between Texas A&M and Miami, it's been a defensive battle. Who had that on their bingo card? We sure didn't, but both teams missed field goals in the first half, which was just unreal to see.

For Texas A&M, it came after a long drive, with Marcel Reed throwing with passion. It set the stage for a 22-yard FG try, but in shocking fashion, the kick was low and Rueben Bain was able to get up to block it. You've got to be kidding, right? As you'll be able to see in the video below, Reed himself could not believe the Aggies weren't able to put some points up on the board.

Texas A&M special teams continue to haunt Mike Elko and Marcel Reed

If you fast forward in the video above to around the 52-second mark, you can see Reed shaking his head in disgust. Normally, a 22-yard field goal is something a kicker nails in his sleep, but that wasn't the case here for Jared Zirkel. His attempt never had a prayer.

Issues with kicking/special teams is obviously nothing new for the Aggies and Mike Elko, but the hope was that things would get cleaned up for the CFP. Leaving three points off of the board is something that can't happen, especially when you're playing against a team as talented as Miami. Luckily for Elko, the Canes have been cold on offense too - these teams just entered the halftime break tied at 0-0 as of this writing.

These two teams are both pushing for the chance to play Ohio State in the quarterfinals of the CFP and every play counts. Reed is doing his best to lift his team to a victory, but he's also going to need his teammates to step up too. The last thing the Aggies need is for special teams to continue to haunt them like this.
