Texas A&M has re-embraced the art of the alternate uniform under Mike Elko, after only using one non-standard uniform in the Jimbo Fisher era— and that was a 1998 throwback that was in his first year, already in the works when he took the job. Under Elko, though, the Aggies have rolled out some pretty sweet alternates— the 1975 throwback they wore against Florida went over great, as have the all-black uniforms that we've seen each year.
With a couple more alternate uniforms apparently in the pipeline for this upcoming season, Aggie fans are excited to see what new things may be in store. It seems pretty certain that the all-black alternates will be in the mix once more, but there could be more coming as well.
However, Robert Behrens of Good Bull Hunting may have caught what exactly is coming— and if he's right, it is not exactly something that is going to cause a lot of excitement. A now-taken-down Academy listing seems to hint at what the Aggies might be donning at one point this upcoming season— and it's looking like a colossal mistake.

Behrens was tipped off by one Connor Hadley to a since-removed Academy listing for a khaki camo Texas A&M jersey, which you can see in the preview below.

As Behrens points out, though the link no longer works, the site still appears to be indexed on Google (under Salute to Service alternate jersey), and there are a lot of other hints that this is a legitimate alternate that is in the pipeline for the Aggies to wear this upcoming year... which begs the question: why in the world is this something that they decided to wear?
A Salute to Service day is a great idea in and of itself, but if this is the way it is executed, the storyline will not be about honoring those who have put their lives on the line to defend this country; rather, the story will be about how awful the Aggies' alternate jerseys ended up looking.
Behrens, who is no stranger to coming up with odd jersey alternates— it used to be a staple over at Good Bull Hunting— observes that it's probably better to reserve judgment until you see the whole uniform. But it is hard to envision how this could end up looking good on the field.

That is a massive difference between the two, to put it mildly. The basketball Corps jerseys went over great with fans, but if this Academy listing is any indication, these football jerseys will not.
These could be for any number of games, including the Red, White, and Blue Out against Arizona State on September 12. It's also possible this is just an NFL-style alternate jersey that is only for consumers, as they often will produce camo jerseys for purchase that are never worn in a game.
In other words, this could either be a terrible misstep by the creative team (one which I so recently praised!) or it could be nothing. We'll have to wait until the season is underway to find out.
