Texas A&M basketball may be in the market for a new coach here pretty presently.

There has been talk floating around for weeks now about Buzz Williams' possible departure from College Station at the conclusion of the season. Now that that point is here, that talk is growing louder than ever.

Before the SEC Tournament, Kirk Bohls made the prediction that Buzz would be out the door at the end of the year. That didn't seem altogether strange; it was possible that Williams would exit stage left thanks to the fact that his senior-laden group would be riding off into the sunset. However, it seemed more likely that he would retire— at least temporarily— rather than take another job.

However, news broke recently that Buzz was, in fact, shopping his name for other jobs rather than looking to retire. That took Aggie fans aback; and the job he has apparently been targeting looks like it's about to come open.

With Kevin Willard's Maryland departure, pathway is clear for Buzz Williams to leave Texas A&M basketball

Kevin Willard is out at Maryland, headed to Villanova. Normally, this wouldn't be a headline in Aggieland; but given that Maryland is where Buzz has been rumored to be heading, it's huge news.

Nothing official has surfaced about Maryland offering Buzz the job yet, and it's not a guarantee that they will. It's entirely possible that they do a lot of due diligence on other candidates.

However, with the amount of smoke we've seen from multiple sides here, it doesn't seem likely that the Terps will take long. If I had to guess, Maryland will move quickly to snap up Williams, leaving the Aggies holding the bag.

Where A&M turns from there is anyone's guess. Some are bearish on the AD's attitude towards basketball in general, predicting a budget candidate, but some are thinking bigger.

Whatever happens, the Aggies will be starting over here soon if things continue apace. Hopefully, it doesn't mean a full rebuild.
