Texas A&M has done a great job in the transfer portal once again under Mike Elko, filling multiple needs in the perfect way and retaining a large number of their contributors. The Aggies head into next season now in a much stronger place than anyone had anticipated, especially along the lines of scrimmage.
With 18 players in the boat for the Aggies, though, it's worth asking which have a legitimate shot at starting, and which may be here as developmental players that may pan out a little later on. Here's a list of five transfer players that Aggie fans should keep close in mind as spring practice approaches.
Five transfers to watch closely for Texas A&M's spring practice: CJ Mims
The defensive tackle out of North Carolina was one of the latest adds to the Aggies' transfer class, but he may end up being one of the best. The Ags came in needing desperately to beef up the inside of their defensive line, and Mims is the crown jewel of a group that promises to do just that.
For a terrible UNC defense last year, Mims immediately jumped off of the screen. Bill Belichick's tenure did not get off to a good start in 2025, but Mims was one of the best things about the squad he rolled out there on Saturdays— only he's now in College Station.
He's a player that may not show up on the stat sheet with regularity, as that's not really the role of a defensive tackle like this, but he will affect the game, make no mistake. Mims was a huge pickup at a spot where the Aggies needed a lot of help, and he will make noise pretty early on.
