With Texas A&M's annual Maroon and White game now over and done with, there is definitely a lot to talk about. Apart from a crucial injury to Daymion Sanford, which fans are still lamenting (for good reason), this was a more satisfying watch than it has been in previous years— the program that Mike Elko has been promising is beginning to really materialize before our eyes.

So who in particular showed their stuff in this game? Let's take a look at the top performers— and one guy who is probably wishing he could have his performance today back.

Texas A&M Maroon and White game analysis - Shone: Tawfiq Byard

Right from the jump, Byard's performance was turning heads. The heavy-hitting safety from Colorado was a big pickup in the transfer portal for the Aggies, and fans have been excited to see what he can do for this team— and he delivered in a big way in this one.

Though his counterpart, Dalton Brooks, was unavailable for this game, Byard has Aggie fans dreaming big about what their tandem could look like when both are patrolling the defensive backfield for the maroon and white. There won't be many receivers eager to come across the middle with those two waiting to lay the lumber.

And lay the lumber Byard did in this game, including several early plays that popped off of the screen. He came up in run support right away to put down some high-level hits on running backs and receivers in the short pass game.

Byard looks like he is a guy who is delivering big time on the promise he showed out in Boulder. He's going to be a key piece for Texas A&M in the upcoming season, as the Aggies look to continue their excellence in the defensive backfield.
