Texas A&M Maroon and White game analysis - Sunk: Helaman Casuga

I came into this one predicting that there would be calls for Casuga to be the starter over Reed, and that's pretty much a prediction that fell directly on its face. It was a tough day for the true freshman from Corner Canyon, though he began to settle in by the end.

Even more than settling in, he had the final highlight of the day with a great touchdown throw to Luke Braden for a walk-off touchdown. It's great that he was able to close out the day in that way and reverse the mojo he had going before that point, but we also can't ignore how that mojo came about in this analysis.

Casuga looked consistently flummoxed by the defense several times throughout the day, which didn't inspire much confidence. When he got the ball off, it was often over the head of his receiver or simply off to the side.

This wasn't representative of who Casuga is as a player, of course— there's a reason that insiders have been impressed with him over the course of this offseason. He'll have much better showings going forward, but today was not his best day, all things considered.
