Projecting Texas A&M spring game overreactions: Helaman Casuga should start over Marcel Reed

This is one we are no doubt going to be in for, if for no other reason than the pathological desire that some fans have to see shakeup at the quarterback position. Reed has just been named a team captain for the upcoming season, and led the Aggies very capably for most of last year, but there are still fans that want to see some shakeup.

Reed is on the White team, so he will be throwing against the two best corners, while Casuga will have a bit of an easier go of things. The true freshman's quick advancement at the position will also give him a leg up here, and there will no doubt be a section of fans ready to see him given the nod after today's game.

Is that logical? Not in the slightest. Should Texas A&M fans feel better about having a capable backup? More so than they did coming into the spring, I'd say.

Reed is the starter unless injury knocks him out. This is not a Weigman in 2024 situation, where the race is too close to call: Reed has been an SEC starting quarterback for almost two years at this point, and this team will go as far as he goes in the upcoming year. There will be calls for a change, but Reed is the guy for this team.
