Texas A&M receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman has reportedly sustained an injury during spring practices, as was reported by several people covering the A&M beat during today's open session. This occurred as a result of a "competitive" rep between Bethel-Roman and Julio Humphrey, the Georgia transfer corner who is making the most of his opportunity this spring to compete for a starting spot.

Bethel-Roman was the third leading receiver for the Aggies last year behind KC Concepcion and Mario Craver after an offseason of hype from the coaches. He came up especially big for Texas A&M in the South Carolina game, where he went for 139 yards on only 4 catches. Without him, the dramatic comeback against the Gamecocks wouldn't have happened.

ABR figures to be a massive piece of the receiver rotation going into next year, but this injury casts a pall over that projection. The three-headed monster of him, Mario Craver, and Isaiah Horton is a perfect blend of skillsets, but if Bethel-Roman is unable to go, then the Aggies will have to figure something else out.

However, the good news is that Bethel-Roman did not have to be carted off or helped off the field— according to Mark Passwaters of Rivals, the Aggie receiver was able to walk off under his own power. That in itself doesn't guarantee anything, but it's certainly not a bad sign.

Hopefully, he will miss minimal time, but you never know. True freshman receiver Aaron Gregory is already standing out to a lot of the watching media, so if ABR is out for the rest of the spring, it could be an opportunity for the Georgia product to make a move up the depth chart.

The best case scenario, of course, is that ABR is back with expediency, but fans also want the coaching staff to be careful here. We should know more soon about his status going forward.
