Texas A&M opened up the Bucky McMillan era of Aggie Hoops in style, with McMillan's portal-heavy squad scoring nearly 100 points in their first-ever game together. The Aggies played an aggressive, exciting style of basketball the entire game— just what the former Samford head man has been promising, and the Aggie faithful out in Reed Arena got it in spades.
The Aggies saw five different players reach double figures in this one, led by perhaps the breakout hero of the night in Ruben Dominguez. The Spanish national was a big time get for the Aggies thanks to his sweet stroke from deep, and he lived up to his reputation, putting in 18 points on the night.

It's been a long time since there was a player in Maroon and White that looked as automatic as Dominguez did out there, so this is quite exciting for Aggie fans. A guy like that is absolutely invaluable in the college game, so this was a massive move by McMillan that is already paying off.

Maybe the best thing about this win is that it was done without the Aggies' best player on the floor. Mackenzie Mgbako was unavailable tonight as he continues to recover from an injury, but even so, the Aggies looked absolutely dominant on offense.

Without their best player Mackenzie Mgbako, they put up 98 points.
12 different players scored, nobody took more than 9 shots, and five different players reached double figures.

The defensive end was fast and furious as well, with the Aggies forcing turnover after turnover thanks to their aggressive traps and press defense. That also led to them giving up a few too many points on fast breaks, of course, but the strategy we saw out of Bucky's crew ended up being a massive plus for the Aggies in the final analysis.
If this is only the initial version of the Aggies that we're seeing, then this is set to be an extremely exciting season for this basketball team. Texas A&M was not a high choice in the preseason media polls, but if they can continue to improve apace, then don't be surprised if they are talked about as a tourney team sooner rather than later.
