Texas A&M football loses heartbreaker to Auburn in four overtimes

Nothing is ever simple when it comes to Texas A&M football.

Texas A&M football had a chance to ice this game in the fourth quarter, but a fumbled snap by Reed complicated things. The Aggies ended up having to punt on a 4th and 6, and Auburn was able to work their way down—nearly for a touchdown—but ended up kicking a field goal to tie the game, sending the Aggies to their first overtime game of the year.

What a game for Jahdae Walker, by the way. Several huge catches early in the game and the overtime touchdown reminded every Aggie fan of just how talented he is. Walker's physicality after the catch was huge in this one, and he gave the Aggies a chance to get the win in the extra period.

I have to mention Noah Thomas as well. He made quite the valiant effort in this one, including a career-long 73-yard touchdown to tie the game up in the second half.

Marcel Reed keeps growing as a passer in front of our eyes. Apart from the early INT, he was locked in for most of the night as a thrower. He's taking more chances than we've seen him do in the past, which is a positive—his hesitancy to attempt big time throws was a complaint of mine earlier in the year.

The defense has had some issues in these road games, and the Ags again looked sloppy tonight in Jordan-Hare. They had problems getting to Payton Thorne all night, and it cost them dearly several times.

But at the end of the day, it came down to the football version of penalty kicks. One team made the contested catch, and one team missed the wide-open catch. That ended up being the difference.

There was no shortage of inflection points in this one, but this is the one that ended up deciding things. The Aggies are still alive in the SEC Championship and therefore the playoff hunt, but they need a win next week and then in Atlanta to get to the 12-team field.
