Texas A&M is nearly done putting the finishing touches on their nation-leading 2027 recruiting class, one that is already chock-full of five-star talent and looking to add one or two more. It’s not only the nationally-known and highly-regarded players that the Aggies are adding, however: they are also doing a heck of a job doing their own evaluations and picking ups one real gems from the three-star ranks.
Mike Elko and his staff have really done a bang-up job of making this happen, securing commitments at positions of need and landing their biggest targets time after time. There have been a few disappointments, of course— no recruiting cycle would be complete without a few misses, as even the 2022 group didn’t include everyone the Aggies wanted— but on the whole, it’s been a big plus.
The next big domino to fall for the Aggies may not be a name that a lot of Texas A&M fans are intimately familiar with, but they will be soon. LB Mikahi Allen out of Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey has set an announcement date, and things are looking good for the Aggies.
Texas A&M set to pick up another huge commitment as Mikahi Allen sets commitment date
Allen is a huge and extremely athletic linebacker from the New Jersey area, attending the same high school as Aggie alum Chase Bisontis. Though he’s from the Northeast, his three finalists are Texas, Texas A&M, and South Carolina— with the Aggies currently leading, according to his Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Texas A&M fans have known for a while that he is announcing on July 11, but Allen has now set that he will be announcing live on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel at 4:30 PM central. This should be a big pickup for the Aggies if all goes according to plan— Allen will round out a big time three-man class at the position for Texas A&M that also includes Kaden Henderson and Aston Whiteside.
Allen is a player that divides recruiting services. He is unranked via Rivals outside the Top247 via the 247Sports rankings, but ESPN has him as a top-60 player in the entire nation. It’s rare that ESPN is such a positive outlier for a player, but it should encourage Aggie fans to know that he’s held in such high regard like this by one service, even though the others have to catch up.
The Aggies are looking to get their own victory over the Texas Longhorns after their bitter rivals have won a couple of recruiting battles in a row. Allen canceled his Texas visit after going to College Station early last month, so that is pretty telling for the Aggies— hopefully, the positive momentum carries over into decision day for him.
