Texas A&M is set to see one of their top targets in the cycle come off of the board tomorrow, as Richmond Randle RB Landen Williams-Callis has a commitment announcement scheduled for August 1 at 6:45 PM. This is a recruitment that has taken a lot of twists and turns, from the Aggies holding all the confidence to now a lot of momentum being on the side of the Longhorns.
However, the recruit himself is and has been pretty quiet when it comes to tipping his hand one way or the other, meaning it's hard to tell exactly how real that momentum is. These things tend to get clarified as recruitments near their end, with some telltale signs manifesting even in recruitments that are being played very close to the vest.
That's why this morning's update from Steve Wiltfong of Rivals was so eye-catching for Aggie fans. While the Recruiting Prediction Machine on Rivals still is trending heavily towards the burnt orange, it seems like the door still might be ever-so-slightly cracked for the Aggies with a decision coming in soon.

You can say a lot of things about Trooper Taylor, but you can never count him out of a big time recruiting race. With only hours to go before we learn where LWC is going to commit, he and the Aggie staff are making a big enough push that it warranted notice from Steve Wiltfong of Rivals:

The intel is behind a paywall, but there's some reading of the tea leaves that can be done here. There are basically two options, one cynical, and one less so: the cynical one is that this is only a piece to artificially increase intrigue before a commitment that seems otherwise all but decided.
The less cynical take is that there is something real here, and while Wiltfong has apparently not heard enough to switch his pick (as it currently remains on Texas at the time of writing this article), it's real enough that it is worth monitoring. Simply because of how opaque the recruit in question is when talking to the media, I think this latter take is the correct one.
Like I said, there are some telltale signs in these quiet recruitments that things may be trending a different way than was anticipated. One such sign would be a post like this— this is the kind of thing you'd expect to see close to announcement time if the Agiges were to come from behind, in other words.
That's not to say that there are other explanations, of course, but simply that this could be cause for some enhanced optimism. Hopefully, this is more than just a false signal, and the Aggies can make some magic happen here in the final hours of this hotly-contested recruitment.
