Texas A&M fans are hoping to add Landen Williams-Callis, the top running back in the state of Texas, to their 2027 class, which— despite its high status— does not have a running back pledge at this point. The Aggies have assembled the no. 1 class in the nation, but are still searching for a player at that position of a high caliber.
Williams-Callis fits that bill. The productive runner out of Richmond Randle High School may be short of stature, but you can't argue with the number of yards he's been able to put up at a high level of Texas high school football.
The five-star running back is set to announce tomorrow at 6:45 PM CT, which has every Aggie fan asking: where is he leaning right now? Williams-Callis is a pretty quiet guy, so there hasn't been a lot of buzz surrounding this recruitment from his side— which could either be a positive or a negative.

There was quite some time where the Aggies held the momentum in this hotly-contested recruitment, but recent trends have favored the hated Texas Longhorns over the last few weeks. Predictions flooded in for Texas to land LWC earlier this month, which has Aggie fans feeling pretty crummy about their chances.
Of course, like I said, this is a player that has been extremely circumspect when it comes to talking with the media. Insiders repeatedly reference how difficult it is to get a read on where he is leaning when talking to the kid himself or anyone from his camp, which means that whatever confidence that these predictions have sprung from is emerging from a coaching staff rather than the player.
We've seen this Texas staff get out over their skis beforehand— notably, last year, with KJ Edwards, who everyone thought would announce for the Horns before he dropped the bomb on everyone that he was committing to Texas A&M. It's relevant that this was another in-state highly-ranked running back battle between the Aggies and Longhorns, as we could be seeing the exact same thing come down here if the Aggies win out.
Of course, one point does not make a trend line, though Trooper Taylor has done an excellent job of getting his guy each and every cycle he's been a member of this coaching staff. The Aggie faithful should know that, with Trooper on the case, they're never really out of things— but, at the same time, it would take a real come-from-behind victory here.
The Aggies are doing what they can, though, with current players joining in on the push to land LWC via their social media. He definitely knows he's wanted in this class and has a place among the group that the Aggies are assembling— one of the best classes in years, per the numbers. Whether that will be enough to get him in the boat is something that we'll all have to wait and see.
