Texas A&M has knocked this recruiting cycle out of the park for the most part, but recent returns have been a little more mixed than when they went on their uber hot streak in the middle of the summer. The Aggies were high on the hog for a while there, landing nearly every big time star that was announcing, but recent days have seen some losses creep in alongside those wins.
It’s not been enough to knock the Aggies from their perch as the no. 1 class for this cycle, but it has been enough to kill the dream of Texas A&M beating their 2022 record for the top class of all time. That was always a long shot goal, of course, but the fact that it was ever possible shows just how crazy the cycle has been for the Aggies.
The one position that the Aggies have yet to address in this class, though, is that of running back. Their top target for the entire cycle has been Richmond Randle RB Landen Williams-Callis— and though he’s gone public with a commitment date, it is not something that will end up being a positive for the Aggies.
Texas A&M’s chances dwindling fast with RB Landen Williams-Callis as announcement date approaches
Williams-Callis announced late yesterday that he would be making his commitment on August 1, with this announcement coming amid a surge of Texas momentum in recent days for the skilled runner.

The No. 3 RB has rushed for 7,554 yards and 133 TDs through 3 seasons

While there was a hilarious moment recently with some recruiting experts getting way out over their skis for Williams-Callis, with the player himself taking to X to shut it down, it’s hard to deny that many insiders are pointing towards Austin as the eventual destination here.
We’ve seen some surprises before like this, of course— everyone thought DJ Hicks was Oklahoma-bound before he decided to commit to the Aggies, and everyone believed KJ Edwards was headed to Texas before he suddenly announced a commitment to Texas A&M. Trooper Taylor has done an excellent job of getting his guy since he’s been in Aggieland, and Williams-Callis has been target no. 1 from the beginning for him— so doubt him at your own risk.
If things do end up panning out with the Longhorns on top, though, look for the Aggies to make another run at Texas Tech RB commit SaRod Baker. The DeSoto running back set records during the playoffs last season and keeps on rising in the rankings— and it makes a lot of sense for the Aggies to target him if Williams-Callis goes elsewhere.
We’ll find out in about half a month where LWC is bound for college, but right now, things don’t look rosy for the Ags. We’ve seen crazy things happen before, of course— but with each passing day, the momentum gets tougher to turn back.
