Latest prediction shows Texas A&M’s lead for 5-star talent disturbingly slipping away

This is the opposite of what Texas A&M fans wanted to see, but it may be too far gone at this point.

Texas A&M’s huge momentum in the class of 2027 has led to them landing at the top overall class for the cycle as more and more top targets are announcing their commitments. That leads seems almost insurmountable for most other teams, especially given who the Aggies have been favored to land besides those already in the boat.

However, as fans who have followed recruiting for any amount of time are aware, things are highly fluid much of the time. One player who the Aggies have been counting as a heavy lean for some time, five-star LB Kaden Henderson, may be looking elsewhere after his latest official visit.

The Aggies got Henderson on campus the weekend before last, and apparently did a great job— however, he left campus without committing, which was a concerning sign for some fans. Now, according to the latest prediction, the Aggies may be on the outside looking in when decision day comes for Henderson.

Texas A&M’s lead for 5-star Kaden Henderson may have just evaporated

When Miami reporters announced the other day that the Canes had “moved on” from Henderson in favor of other targets, it seemed like it was great news for the Aggies. Up until that point, most had considered the Hurricanes to be the greatest threat to Texas A&M to land Henderson, but now it looks like it is because the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have surged.

Chad Simmons of Rivals has registered a prediction for Notre Dame to land Henderson, reversing a trend of predictions in favor of the Aggies in this recruitment.

Of course, a prediction is just a prediction, but given where this lands in his recruiting process, this spells bad news for the Aggies. Henderson is coming off of his Texas A&M official visit and has only the Irish left to visit before he decides where he will be attending school— July 1 is the tentative date that he has set.

This would certainly be a loss for the Aggies, who are in need of some high-level athletic traits at the linebacker spot. Noah Mikhail will be great for the Aggies at that position, but this is a prototype that the Aggies need in the room without a doubt.

Barring a late surge for any other prospect, if Henderson ends up elsewhere, it would mark two cycles in a row where Texas A&M failed to land a top-100 linebacker. The Aggies have talent on campus right now, but this could lead to some issues down the road— of course, with the transfer portal, that’s less of a concern than it used to be.

Aggie fans just have to let this play out at this point, though. If Henderson does not want to end up an Aggie, that is his prerogative. New LB coach Travis Williams is known as an elite recruiter, but has not yet bagged a big name in his time with the Aggies— of course, he’s not had the time to build relationships like other coaches have, but it’s still worth monitoring.
