Texas A&M football and the Miami Hurricanes have been locked in several high-leverage recruiting battles over the course of this cycle, including guys like five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews. Some have gone Texas A&M’s way, and some have gone the way of the Hurricanes, but Aggie fans are getting a signal now that things may end up favoring them in the latest contest.
Ever since the Aggies won out for Matthews, the no. 3 overall prospect in the nation, all eyes have been on the top linebacker in the country, Kaden Henderson. A highly-rated linebacker out of Tampa, Florida, Henderson has taken visits to both Coral Gables and College Station, and it looked like he would be coming down to the Hurricanes and the Aggies.
Now, though, intel has emerged from the Miami side that the Aggies have to be loving. For one reason or another, the Hurricanes have decided that they have had enough of this recruitment— leaving this nearly wide-open for the Aggies.
Texas A&M left happily astonished by Miami’s odd decision to pull out of Kaden Henderson recruitment
EJ Holland, a reporter for Miami’s On3 site, has reported— in a tweet that is worded in a way that could easily be described as “stung”— that Miami is no longer in the midst of this recruitment.
Miami is moving on from the recruitment of five-star LB Kaden Henderson.

The Hurricanes have the No. 2 recruiting class in the country. All 18 commits have publicly shut things down. Miami is putting a premium on players who want to be Canes. https://t.co/BwT1hrOEik pic.twitter.com/f0l9enSbTh
It’s hard to know exactly what Holland means by saying that “Miami is putting a premium on players who want to be Canes” other than that Henderson is not favoring the Hurricanes as his top team right now. The top trending team in the Recruiting Prediction Machine for Henderson right now is the Aggies, which would line up with that sentiment.
It also makes sense that the Hurricanes may have been pushing hard for Henderson to shut things down and commit to them a couple of weekends ago when he was on campus for them. He obviously did not do that, and he made it over to College Station, where his visit went very well, from all accounts.
You sometimes see certain staffs pull a move to pressure players into commitments where they tell them that a pledge must be made by a certain date or an offer will be pulled. I’m not saying that’s what happened here, of course, but that would line up with the timeline we’re talking about with what we’ve seen here.
The Aggies are not out of the woods completely yet, though. Notre Dame is still pushing hard for Henderson, and he is scheduled to make his way up to South Bend before too long to see what they have to offer.
The thought has been up until this point, however, that the Irish have been running a distant third place in this recruitment. You can never tell just how things will go on an official visit, though, so Marcus Freeman could have something up his sleeve.
At this point, it looks really positive for Texas A&M, though. The Aggies have to love that the Hurricanes have pulled this move— and it could further Texas A&M’s chances at landing that top overall class.
