Le'Veon Moss injury update: Optimism emanating from A&M, but dark clouds remain

One of Texas A&M's biggest stars should be back this year, but exactly when is still a question.

The latest injury update on star Texas A&M running back Le'Veon Moss is definitely a positive, but there are still things to worry about for the Aggies' offensive engine. Pete Nakos of On3 reports that there is "optimism" that Moss avoided a season-ending injury against Florida— which was definitely on the table, given the awkward way that Moss went down on the play— but gave no update on when that return may be.

Nakos also confirms that Moss suffered an ankle injury, not a knee injury as some had been worrying. Obviously, with Moss having undergone such a rehab process already on his knee from last year's injury against South Carolina, a knee injury would have been far worse for his long-term prospects as a runner, not to mention his ability to return this year.

Le'Veon Moss injury update is positive, but fans are still left wondering about return timeline

With the stretch coming up that the Aggies have— three games on the road against SEC competition— they would love to be at full strength, but without Moss, they are far from it. There is still an extremely deep running back room in College Station thanks to the availability of Rueben Owens, Amari Daniels, EJ Smith, and the emergence of Jamarion Morrow, but Moss is the clear top dog.

Arkansas, the Aggies' first game on this slate, has a terrible rush defense, but LSU is a different story. It's probably too much to hope that he's back by October 25th, of course, but the Aggies have a bye after that before they venture to Missouri.

In Moss's absence, the other backs will have to pick up the slack. The good news is that the Aggie offensive line, which is more than half of what makes their running game so good, is still intact and will create a lot of space for the backs who are playing.

Hopefully Mike Elko gives a further update in his press availability today, but for now, this is positive news. Moss will be back at some point this season— hopefully sooner rather than later.
