Texas A&M baseball has eye-popping streak finally broken with loss to Cal Poly
Texas A&M baseball came into this game against the Cal Poly Mustangs having not lost an out-of-conference game since the middle of 2023. They exited with that streak finally broken, falling 3-2 to the Mustangs after a ninth-inning implosion by the pitching staff.
Now, is this earth-shatteringly bad news? Of course not. Part of what made that previous streak just so improbable is that the Aggies not only played some really quality out of conference competition during that time, but the structure of the game simply doesn't often accomodate such dominance.
The Aggies have learned that fact the hard way during this series, having been subjected to quite a few unfortunate bounces of the ball over this time period. Gavin Grahovac looks beaten up, LaViolette didn't get much going this weekend, and the rest of the Aggies looked like they were sleepwalking at the plate.
Maybe re-injecting Caden Sorrell into the lineup, whenever he returns from his injury, will provide a spark. Maybe this is all just an overreaction to things after what is, in all honesty, an inevitable outcome given the way the game of baseball goes from time to time.
The Aggies still have plenty of time before SEC play, and they'll have a miniature proving grounds this upcoming weekend when they face off against some other Power 4 opponents. At this juncture, though, there is a growing number of fans who are hoping to see something more, especially out of the offense for this team— and quickly.
