Marcel Reed emerging as superstar after explosive first half against Notre Dame

The Aggie quarterback needs to put a great second half together, but he's showing his stuff early against the Irish.

Aggie fans talked all offseason about whether they would see a big improvement out of Marcel Reed from last year into this fall. He showed a lot of growth from the first half to the second half of 2024, but he would need to take even a further step for A&M to move forward this season.

Reed is doing just that, and he's showing it in one of the toughest places possible. He's led the Aggies to a high-scoring output in the first half against a tough Notre Dame defense on the road, already outscoring a highly-touted Miami offense who played the Irish at home two weeks ago.

Reed's performance so far is making people in College Station and across the nation rethink just how high the ceiling is for this Aggie team. He's delivering the ball on time and on target time after time, and though he has an interception on his ledger, that was due to an amazing play by a Notre Dame corner rather than a bad throw by Marcel.

Take a look at some of Reed's numbers at halftime:

This would be a pretty good four-quarter game against a defense as talented as that of the Fighting Irish, and Marcel did it in a half. A lot of credit has to go to KC Concepcion and Mario Craver for what they've been able to do thus far, but Marcel is playing confidently and moving the offense up and down the field with his arm as well as his legs.

Reed needs to keep this up for the second half, and I'm sure Marcus Freeman is laying into his defense right now for everything they gave up against the redshirt sophomore quarterback in this first half. He'll come out with some adjustments without a doubt, and Marcel and this offense need to be ready.
