Mark Matthews recruitment takes concerning twist as Miami keeps battling A&M

This is the last thing that Texas A&M fans wanted to hear coming into this week, as they continue to wrestle the Hurricanes for Mark Matthews.

Texas A&M football is in hot pursuit of the nation's top offensive tackle, Mark Matthews, and they are currently trending with him in a big way. There was a lot of talk late last week about Matthews possibly going public with a decision in favor of the Aggies, and it got the maroon and white faithful pretty excited about the possibilities with him and Kennedy Brown in the boat.

However, last week came and went, and no decision from Matthews ended up manifesting. He hosted his finalists in home over the course of the last couple of days, and a last-ditch effort by the Miami Hurricanes may have been what stayed his hand.

That was disconcerting enough for Texas A&M fans, but now even more news has emerged that will disquiet the maroon and white confidence. It looks like the decision for Matthews, previously thought to be imminent, has now been rolled back to even later.

Texas A&M confidence fading for Mark Matthews as recruitment takes another concerning turn

While many had anticipated a decision coming as quickly as late last week, it looks like the nation's top offensive tackle has decided to take things slowly and go through his official visit schedule before announcing anything. With the momentum strongly in Texas A&M's favor as of last week, that is not a promising development:

Has Mario Cristobal's pitch to Matthews hit home, and he's decided to walk back the enthusiasm he was feeling for the Aggies? Or is this simply a move to make sure he's got all of his ducks in a row before he comes out and announces anything?

It's certainly not a trend that feels great for Texas A&M fans. All of the intel was pointing in one direction for this one, and now that Matthews has decided to take things a little bit slower, it feels like the inevitability factor has been all but completely squashed.

Hopefully, Mike Elko and Adam Cushing will be able to still get this one over the finish line in short order. If nothing else, the Aggies are still on his list for official visits, so they will get another shot with Matthews before announcement time.
