Texas A&M reportedly 'surging' to steal top-three recruit from Miami's clutches

This would be quite the statement for the Aggies if it happens the way things seem to be trending right now.

Texas A&M had a host of top-shelf recruits in town this past weekend for their annual spring game festivities, and it looks like they made quite a few moves with some of the top-shelf talent that was on site. One of the most notable names on campus was that of Mark Matthews, the no. 3 overall player in the country and top-ranked OT, who was making a second springtime visit to College Station.

According to insiders, it looks like Texas A&M made the most of their opportunity with Matthews on campus, as the Aggies are reportedly "surging" in his recruitment. This is a daring bid to steal Matthews away from the hometown Miami Hurricanes, whose campus he lives only about 30 miles from, but the Aggies apparently stand as good of a chance as anyone to do so.

Texas A&M making a huge move to land the plane with top-three national player Mark Matthews

Rivals reported today that the Aggies have made a big move with Matthews, which is eyebrow-raising to say the least.

This would be a landmark move for Adam Cushing and company. With Texas A&M commit DeMarrion Johnson back in Austin this past weekend despite assurances that he would be shutting his recruitment down, the Aggies may be in position to snag a replacement OT if things keep going down that road.

Matthews would be far more than some consolation, however— there's a reason he's a top-three player in the nation. He is about as surefire of a top NFL draft pick as you can find from the high school ranks, and nowhere would do a better job of developing him than Texas A&M.

There's a long way yet to go in this one, but the Aggies are making moves that no one expected just a month or so ago. They are looking to add to their class in a big way, and if they can close the deal here, it makes a potential number one overall class just that much more realistic.
