Texas A&M is reportedly hosting five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews— the nation's second-ranked player overall— on campus today in a bid to continue adding to their top-ranked recruiting class. This is a return visit for Matthews, who has been to College Station several times already, showing major interest in the Aggies even as the hometown Miami Hurricanes have been reportedly setting the pace in this recruitment.

Adam Cushing and company have done a great job with several of the top-ranked offensive linemen in this cycle, Matthews included. If they can land the plane on this one, it would be nothing short of an absolute recruiting heist— Texas A&M is currently out of the picture on On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine, so take that for whatever that is worth.

The Aggies have quite a fight ahead of them, of course, as Miami is putting the full court press on Matthews, who lives only 27 miles from campus. The Hurricanes have a strong record of putting offensive linemen in the league, and are about to have a couple more high selections in this draft.
That said, the Aggies have the horsepower to pull this off. Texas A&M has become a destination for premier offensive linemen under Mike Elko and Adam Cushing, and so they can in no way be written off here. With the commitment that the Aggies have to building their program the right way and developing players, any OL in the country would be smart to have A&M high on his list.
The frequency with which Matthews has been in College Station is a big tell here. This is the second time in this spring so far that he has been in Aggieland, so you can tell that he views the Aggies as a serious contender for his commitment.
Texas A&M just needs to close the deal, now. The chances that Matthews shuts things down on this visit are pretty low, but the Aggies can certainly look to pull even— or ahead of— the Hurricanes this weekend.
