Marcel Reed will grow from this. He has to... For most of the season, he had been a Heisman Trophy candidate. While the road loss to rival Texas brought a swift end to that, Reed did not back that up with a good performance vs. the Miami Hurricanes in the College Football Playoff. He completed 25-of-39 passes for 237 yards and two interceptions, including the game-sealer to lose at home, 10-3.
And even though Robert Griffin III thought it was a good idea, Reed is not transferring to Miami now.
“I’d have to talk to my parents. …I got offers after my freshman year. I thought this was the best place to be. I don’t think there’s any reason I need to leave Texas A&M….We have the best stadium in college football.”
This was an optically terrible look when it happened weeks ago, so why entertain RGIII any longer?
Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed on would he transfer if Miami offered him $4 Million,

Does Reed deserve his fair share of the blame for the heartbreaking home loss in the playoff to Miami? Oh, absolutely. However, head coach Mike Elko deserves a bunch himself, as does the Aggies' outgoing offensive coordinator Collin Klein. Nobody is going to be sad to see him off to Manhattan to take over his alma mater's Kansas State Wildcats. Reed flourished under him, but Klein let him down...
Texas A&M is the best place for Reed, but he must become a better all-around player when it counts.
Marcel Reed must pick up the pieces after heartbreaking playoff defeat
It is not about where Reed is, but where he is going. Surely, he will stay put with Texas A&M and become the player we all know he is capable of more consistently operating this offense. The threat to take it and run himself will always be a part of his game moving forward. What is important is for him to be able to spread the ball around a little more effectively to his high-priced wide receivers.
So even though Miami will be a player in the transfer portal once again, as this is Carson Beck's final year of collegiate eligibility, Texas A&M is where Reed needs to be. People do love a redemption story. The last two games Reed has played for the Aggies have left a sour taste in everyone's mouth. The good news for him is Mike Elko is not going anywhere. He is the right man to be leading this program.
Ultimately, this was a brutal watch of a football game, where somebody had to win and somebody had to lose. Miami was a bit more careful with the football, which culminated in the Hurricanes winning in the end. No, this is not going to be Texas A&M's last time of making the playoff for the foreseeable future. This team recruits well and plays hard. It just needs its key pieces like Reed to be more refined.
For now, Reed and the rest of the Texas A&M team need to briefly reflect on what went wrong today.
