The Collin Klein era is officially over in College Station, and right now, Texas A&M fans are very okay with that. After the conclusion of the regular season, it was announced that Klein would take the head coaching position at Kansas State, thus leaving the Aggies.
Many were upset as Klein has done some great things at Texas A&M as the offensive coordinator, but after the last two games the Aggies played, fans are saying good riddance to the former Wildcat. Some also wonder if Klein's attention was split too much in the last couple of weeks with the trip to Manhattan and working to build his staff at Kansas State.
This is one of the glaring problems college football has seen more and more of. In the NFL, teams are not allowed to contact a coach until his team's season is over. However, in college football, the pressure of the Early Signing Period and the transfer portal pushes teams to want a head coach with the program as soon as possible.
Collin Klein meant well, but its clear his focus was not on the Aggies
While Klein wanted to finish out the season with Texas A&M, it's clear he didn't have all of his focus where it was needed for the Aggies to have a successful College Football Playoff run. He had to make the trip to Manhattan to be introduced as the new head coach, and in the past week, it is clear he has been working on his staff, as a lot of new hire posts have been made for Kansas State.
Klein has not only been hiring his staff, but also looking ahead at recruiting for future classes, thus continuing to take his focus away from the preparations for the College Football Playoff.
While Klein has been in College Station, it is clear his mind was in Manhattan and looking to his future with his Alma Mater. This should be a clear example that change is needed in college football when it comes to head coaching hires.
Texas A&M wishes Klein the best on his next endeavor, but there is also some animosity based on how things ended with the offense.
