There was a lot on the line this weekend for Texas A&M baseball head coach Michael Earley— even despite the momentum that he was building over the past few weekends, the Aggie head coach could have run into a nightmare scenario had he been swept by Jim Schlossnagle and Texas.
Instead, the tables were turned on the no. 2-ranked Longhorns upon their visit to College Station. Rather than taking home a series win, as they had done against every other SEC team so far, the Longhorns looked practically noncompetitive through the two-game series that ended up manifesting— the third game eventually got rained out.
With the series win over this huge rival— not to mention College Station's public enemy number one— Michael Earley's resume in his short tenure in Aggieland all of a sudden has some pretty high highs. Though the first year didn't end in the way that anyone wanted, it's worth asking whether Earley may in fact be starting to pan out after all.
Texas A&M could be getting the star coach they wanted all along in Michael Earley
Just take a look at some of the series wins that Earley has racked up so far in his short time as the head man of Aggie baseball:

Now, in all fairness, you have some other things to factor into this equation— chief among them is the still-inexplicable series sweep by the awful Missouri Tigers last season that all but put an end to Texas A&M's postseason hopes. It also should be said that, with the level of talent that the Aggies have on this roster, they are better-equipped to win series like this than almost any squad in the country.
With all that said, this year is looking pretty good for Earley and company so far. They'll have plenty of opportunity to take on some more big time programs, with a massive road opportunity against a reeling LSU team this weekend. If he keeps stringing these wins together, we could be seeing a fanbase completely change their tune about him sooner rather than later.
