Mike Elko is on the verge of outlasting competitors for earth-shaking addition

This would be a complete coup for the Aggies if they're able to pull it off.

One of the biggest blows that this Aggie staff sustained when Mike Elko arrived as head coach was the loss of defensive line coach Elijah Robinson. "E-Rob," as the players called him, was an elite recruiter and developer of defensive line talent while in Aggieland, but he elected to head to Syracuse to coach alongside longtime friend Fran Brown up at Syracuse as defensive coordinator.

Recently, though, there's been some rumblings about Robinson headed elsewhere— following a demotion from defensive coordinator back to defensive line coach. It seemed all but certain very recently that Robinson would be en route to join Lane Kiffin down in Baton Rouge before momentum all of a sudden shifted to Matt Rhule and Nebraska, who Robinson had worked with previously.

Penn State was also a dark horse in this race, given that Robinson graduated from there himself. However, the wind has once again shifted, and Mike Elko and Texas A&M now seem like they may be the ones to bring in the highly-regarded DL coach.

Recent reporting from footballscoop.com and Nebraska fan sites indicated that Robinson is now leaning towards reuniting with the Aggies. This would be a massive coup for the Ags, given Robinson's abilities as a recruiter in particular, especially given that they would be keeping him away from a fellow SEC team.

The strange part is that the Aggies don't technically have an opening at the moment. They have both Sean Spencer and Tony Jerod-Eddie at the position right now, so there's technically not room for a third coach there.

The rumor right now, however, is that Spencer will be outbound to reunite with James Franklin— who he worked with in State College some time ago— now at Virginia Tech. If that comes to pass, there will obviously be a spot open for Robinson.

This would be massive for the Aggies if it comes to pass. Hopefully, Elko and company will be able to get this one done pretty quickly.
