Texas A&M has built the no. 1 class in the nation for the 2027 cycle, and they are showing no signs of slowing down. After a recent reclassification from defensive back Loia Valade up to the class of 2026, the Aggies are looking to add another DB to this class— and it may come at the expense of the Florida State Seminoles.
Steve Wiltfong and others are reporting that the Aggies are set to host four-star Florida State defensive back commitment Za’Kari Johnson for tonight’s game against the Missouri State Bears. Johnson ranks as the 296th player overall in the nation, and is one of FSU’s top commitments for the upcoming cycle.

This would be another huge add for the Aggies out of the state of Florida for this cycle if they are able to pull it off. The staff has been pretty choosy with who they go after this cycle, as they’ve hit on nearly all of their top targets, so it’s clear they have high regard for Johnson if they’re making a move like this to get him on campus.

Johnson isn’t the only recruit that the Aggies are looking to flip down the stretch of this year. Fans recall the momentum that Texas A&M had with a guy like Joshua Dobson, who ended up committing to the in-state South Carolina Gamecocks, but if Shane Beamer and company struggle this season, Texas A&M could get a foot in the door there.
Albert Simien is another player who is in a similar position— the five-star interior offensive lineman committed to Notre Dame over the Aggies even though A&M had quite a bit of momentum throughout the recruitment. It’s hard to see ND having too many issues this year, but you can bet that A&M won’t stop making a run at him this season, either.
It’s not hard to see why Johnson would want to join up with this recruiting class, either. He would be joining a group that includes three five-star defensive backs in S Kamarui Dorsey, S JayQuan Snell, and CB Raylaun Henry. That’s quite a bit of talent coming in, and players are drawn to that— it’s a group that can make a run at a national championship.
Johnson committed to Florida State a little under two months ago, so it’s still pretty fresh, relatively speaking. That said, the Aggies are not making any bones about the fact that this is a guy they want in their class, so Mike Norvell and the Florida State faithful ought to watch out going forward.
