Mike Elko has transformed Texas A&M's opener into a massive recruiting event

Texas A&M's recruiting has been skyrocketing over the last year under Mike Elko and this staff, and the head man for the Aggies is not intent on slowing down any time soon. The Aggies are heavy favorites to sign the no. 1 class in the 2027 cycle, and they'll have a shot at it in the 2028 cycle as well.

Those efforts are only helped by the kind of news that is being reported about this weekend, as the Aggie staff prepares for the first game weekend of the year in a big way. Rivals has reported that the number of recruits in attendance for Texas A&M's opener against Missouri State is going to be unbelievably high, with nearly 150 scheduled to be in Kyle Field when the Aggies kick off this Saturday.

Even though this isn't one of the Aggies' highlight home games of the year, they still have enough pull and momentum in the recruiting world right now that they can get a massive number of recruits like this in the door. That's quite the statement about where things stand for this program right now on the trail— if the Aggies are able to follow up 2027's elite class with another one in 2028, they'll be in a better spot than Jimbo Fisher ever was on that front.

Obviously, this is not going to come all from the 2027 class, as many of the top prospects in that year are already committed to some school or another (though don't be surprised to see a couple of flip targets in the mix). No, the Aggies are already thinking well ahead— as the headline says, the Aggies are going to have top talent from not only 2027, but 2028 and 2029 as well.

This is the kind of thing that helps move you forward with the junior class that will start making their commitments public soon, and helps build a solid foundation with those 2029s that the staff can springboard off of later on. It's a savvy move from the staff to make this such an event— a night game at Kyle Field is possibly the most effective recruiting tool that any school in the country has.

It's also a great move to get some of the 2027 commits back on campus, of course. With the star-studded list of players that have pledged to A&M, you have to understand that other schools are still swinging hard to flip most Aggie prospects— and you have to make sure you're doing everything possible to ensure they stay committed.

Mike Elko and this staff have not suffered very many high-profile flips at all in his first two cycles, though, so that's not something that many fans are worried about. Still, though, this shows that the head man for the Aggies is not only forward-thinking about his strategies in all areas of the program, but he has assembled a staff with the skills to put those strategies into place in a very effective way.
