Texas A&M fans always love hearing Mike Elko get time in the media spotlight, tuning in from across the country to hear what the head coach of the Aggies has to say about his program. In an interview today with 96.7 FM the Ticket in Dallas-Fort Worth, he had plenty to say— including a funny quote about KC Concepcion that A&M fans are loving.
That's not all the head man for the Aggies had to say, however. As the conversation went on from NFL draft prospects coming out of College Station, it drifted towards Texas A&M's beast of a schedule for the upcoming year.
The Aggies once more face a complete gauntlet this season, and it's going to be quite a challenge to get to ten wins once more. Mike Elko made sure this point was driven home in this interview in a way that will have A&M fans everywhere pumping their fists.
Mike Elko does not mince words about criticisms of Texas A&M's schedule
You can hear the full interview here, but this clip in particular begins around the 14-minute mark.
"Here's what I want to do. I want to record this conversation so that next year, in November, when you guys are talking about how easy my schedule is, I want to be able to come back to it. Because I was having this same conversation last year, and people were saying, 'How are you ever going to go to LSU and go to Notre Dame and go to Missouri,' and then I got into the season, and all anyone was talking about was how I wasn't playing anyone."Mike Elko
To their credit, this was met with emphatic agreement by the hosts of the Hardline— one slammed his fist on the table and exclaimed, "thank you— seriously! They can't have it both ways." The double standard with which Texas A&M's schedule was treated as the year went on was apparently not totally overlooked by those in the media, it seems.
All coach Elko can do is face the teams that are on his schedule, and his squad absolutely demolished nearly everyone they faced in 2025. The complaints that get levied at the Aggies for their schedule are completely farcical, but don't be surprised if we hear more of the same come next November.
