Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko is the perfect personality for the modern college football coach: he's fastidious enough that he can command every aspect of the program in the way he needs to, but also easygoing enough pesronally that he can connect with the fans and the media.
One such latter relationship that he has established since coming to be the head man in College Station is with "The Hardline," the afternoon drivetime show on legendary sports station 96.7 The Ticket in Dallas-Fort Worth. Elko calls in or even comes up to the studio several times per year, and the hosts certainly seem to enjoy having him on.
This is also a chance for Aggie fans to catch the more laid-back side of coach Elko as he jokes around with the hosts. One comment he made when discussing the litany of NFL prospects that the Aggies currently boast should have Texas A&M fans roaring with laughter.
Texas A&M football fans will love Mike Elko's evaluation of KC Concepcion after getting him from transfer portal
Mike Elko, just like every Aggie fan, could tell that KC was a big get when he came to Texas A&M out of the transfer portal, but not everyone knew just how big of a get he was at that point. It became clear pretty quickly to Elko, however, that they had landed a bigger fish than anyone thought:
Mike Elko on “The Ticket” talking about WR KC Concepcion:

“In spring we were a little worried, we thought either our secondary sucked or KC Concepcion was really good”
We know which one it was. 😂
KC is a projected first rounder in the NFL draft.

The defensive backfield was probably the best part of A&M's defense this past season, so it's clear that the corners didn't suck— as fans found out in the very first game, it was just that KC was that good. He continued to shine throughout the season en route to a year that should see him bump up possibly into the first round of the NFL draft.
Whichever NFL team decides to use their selection on KC will not be disappointed by any means— he's going to be one of those guys who is an instant-impact player in the league. Aggie fans can be sure that, whatever pro coach ends up seeing KC live and in person in practice, he'll be having a similar crisis before the season begins.
