Mike Elko's latest four-star RB flip shows Texas A&M always has a plan

Mike Elko and this Texas A&M staff just pulled off a late flip in this 2026 recruiting cycle, signing four-star running back Carsyn Baker out of Langston Hughes High School in Fairburn, Georgia. Baker had been committed to the Florida Gators for quite some time, but the Aggies were able to swoop in and snag his commitment over UF, UNC, South Carolina, and Florida State.

This was a needed move for the Aggies after losing four-star running back Jonathan Hatton to Oklahoma not long ago. That flip came about pretty quickly, just like this one— but the Aggies were able to adjust quickly and move in on Baker.

The 6'0", 195 LB running back out of the Peach State fills the same power back role that Hatton did in this class, meaning he complements the Aggies' RB signee KJ Edwards quite well. He hits a top gear better than Hatton does, but maintains the short-yardage ability that the Aggies clearly covet.

This was the final question mark of the 2026 class (though with Lamar Brown still yet unsigned, there will be some eyes over on Baton Rouge until things settle over there). Texas A&M is likely to finish out the year with a solidly top-10 class, but the 2027 cycle could be even higher.

Baker's addition shows just how quickly Texas A&M recruiting staff can pivot, which is impossible without a high level of organization at the top. Mike Elko is running a tight ship in Bright, and it's getting results on the trail in a major way.

This also shows how formidable of an opponent the Aggies are on the trail right now. It's no small feat to enter a recruitment like this, where A&M has not been much of a presence throughout, and get things across the finish line in such a short amount of time. Kudos to the Aggie coaching staff here— this is a massive and needed get for this class, and they made it happen all too easily.
