The running back from Carthage, Texas, forms one half of perhaps the best running back commitment tandem in the entire nation along with Cibolo RB Jonathan Hatton, Jr, who the Aggies flipped from Oklahoma. That alone should tell you just how elite this pair of running backs is: the Aggies beat out LSU and Texas for Edwards, and they held off the Sooners (and Alabama, for that matter) for Hatton.
This news of Edwards shutting down his commitment is welcome for Aggie fans, as he had, in fact, made his way down to Baton Rouge back in week three for the Tigers’ game against the Florida Gators. Though Edwards’s father let Aggie fans know that there is nothing to worry about, this was still the cause of some anxiety among Texas A&M fans.
Texas A&M RB commit KJ Edwards shuts down recruitment, spurning LSU and Texas
As it turns out, this one was no sweat at all for Trooper Taylor, Mike Elko, and this Aggie recruiting staff. They weathered this visit, as well as a hard LSU push to get Edwards back on campus, and now one of the top commits in the A&M class has shut his recruitment down in favor of Mike Elko’s program.
This also, without a doubt, has to do with the Aggies’ really hot start to the year. Texas A&M is the only one of his final schools that has started the year off at 4-0, and they have looked the best running the ball by far of those three as well.
The kind of on-field results that the Aggies have been achieving so far this year will lead to a lot more favorable recruiting results if they are able to keep this up. The biggest issue heretofore has been a lack of explosive offense, and we’ve seen no shortage of that explosiveness so far in the year thanks to guys like Mario Craver and KC Concepcion.
This is worth quite a tip of the cap to this Aggie staff, in any case. Mike Elko is showing that he’s building a program for long-term success in all facets— and this is only the latest example of that fact.
