Texas A&M fans are going to have to get used to seeing one of their most prominent NFL players in a different uniform this upcoming year, as it was announced today that WR Mike Evans is heading to the San Francisco 49ers in free agency. This announcement comes on the heels of news that Evans would be speaking with other teams in free agency for the first time in his career, and despite confidence from the Tampa Bay front office that they would get a deal done.

Evans immediately adds a needed deep threat to the 49ers receiver room, as well as a strong, veteran pedigree at the position. There are few more accomplished receivers than Evans in the entire league, and he is likely the most underhyped of them all.

Mike Evans heads to San Francisco 49ers in NFL free agency, making Aggies' heads spin

Evans will pair up with Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffery to make a real three-headed threat in San Fran for the upcoming year. Kyle Shanahan's squad disappointed this past season, but they've been a perennial Super Bowl contender for many years— adding Evans will be a step in the right direction there.

For Texas A&M fans, seeing Evans in a different jersey was the hope of many— but it may not have been this one. The 49ers have one of the biggest fanbases in the sport, but there are more Aggie fans donning Texans colors or the silver and blue of the Dallas Cowboys than there are sympathetic to the '9ers.

In any case, though, this won't stop the A&M faithful from wishing Mike the best. This is a chance at a welcome new start for him, as things in Tampa seemed to be headed nowhere fast. In San Francisco, he'll have a chance at snagging another ring before all is said and done— hopefully adding to what is no doubt a hall of fame career.
