Former Texas A&M superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett has been named the best player in the National Football League for this previous season by Pro Football Focus— a title which, of course, also means he is designated as the best in the entire world.

This is a high honor for Garrett, and though he didn't really receive a lot of consideration for NFL MVP— probably unjustly, but defensive players hardly ever are mentioned in that discussion— this demonstrates the kinds of conversations he should be in. After winning his second Defensive Player of the Year award and setting the single-season NFL sack record, Garrett, though he plays on a team that is not exactly a headliner in the league, is growing in status still.

It's not hard to see why Myles earned this distinction, in that light. The sack record is something that has stood for years and years, and no one has come close to touching it outside of TJ Watt's tying effort a few years back. He's all but guaranteed himself a place in history with that record— something that should stand for quite some time going forward.

Garrett deserves every bit of this praise, in other words. After his short holdout with the Browns and a trade request, he re-signed with Cleveland for the long term on a very high dollar deal— but the fact that this is still the Browns, a franchise now tied to DeShaun Watson as well, means he may not get the attention that he should as the team labors in obscurity.

Hopefully, he can be on a competitive franchise going forward, whether that's in Cleveland or elsewhere. There's no one doing it better than Myles is right now, and the fact that he's getting this kind of recognition from the national media is huge.
