Nate Boerkircher is about to show Jaguars fans why the reach to pick him was worth it

No one saw this coming, but it's going to be a pick that Jaguars fans feel great about going forward.

Nate Boerkircher has been drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 56th pick in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft, making a massive leap up from his projected third to fourth-round range. Boerkircher was one of the most consequential additions to Texas A&M's team from the transfer portal this offseason, and will bring all the qualities you could want from the position to Jacksonville.

He began the offseason as a potential candidate for being a high-choice UDFA, but a strong showing at the Senior Bowl really rocketed his draft stock up. Even coming into the draft, though, Boerkircher was considered a day-three player, which makes him being selected in the 50s honestly shocking.

However, that's not to say it was a mistake by the Jaguars— far from it. The one-year Aggie is a player who is the prototype of a longtime NFL player and contributor, and he will no doubt crack the rotation in Jacksonville immediately.

Boerkircher was 4th on the 2025 Aggies in receiving, notching 198 yards last season. Every single one of them mattered, as he made two memorable grabs in particular for touchdowns that lifted the Aggies to wins over Notre Dame (in the final second, I may add) and South Carolina (in the largest comeback in school history).

This is a player who was touted as having the best hands on the team through the offseason, and he produced in a big way as a pass-catcher. However, his best attribute may be his stellar blocking ability— this is one of the most physical players from last year's squad, without a doubt.

Though Jacksonville fans may be worried that this was a reach for them, there's no doubt that this is a pick they'll look back on fondly. Congratulations to Nate, and congratulations to the Jags— you just got a really good one.
