One of the most prominent former Texas A&M football players in the league is about to make some serious cash, as the market keeps getting reset.

New deal for Maxx Crosby means huge number inbound for former Texas A&M football star Myles Garrett

Texas A&M football has put a litany of high-level defenders into the NFL, most notably at pass-rusher, but none more prominent than Myles Garrett. A former first-overall pick in the NFL draft, Garrett has played at an all-pro level nearly from the moment he stepped onto the field for the Browns, finally earning a well-deserved AP Defensive Player of the Year award in 2023, and has won the Sporting News DPOY award for two years straight.

Garrett, despite his accolades and dedication thus far to the Browns, has laid down the gauntlet recently, declaring that he wants to be traded. With the way the Browns have been run recently, it's no surprise that he'd request this, to be honest.

The Browns are not keen on this idea, as you'd expect. They'll do everything they can to keep Garrett in Cleveland, but it really seems like the star edge rusher has his mind made up at this point.

Whatever happens with Myles, it is now all but guaranteed to involve some major cash. The NFL space is often dominated with discussion about new quarterback contracts resetting the market, and we just saw the same thing happen with one of the premier defensive ends in the league— Maxx Crosby.

Crosby gaining this contract means that Garrett is likely in line for an even bigger deal wherever he ends up. Though he is reportedly not open to that being Cleveland, even if he is traded, I imagine his new destination would like to lock him up for longer than what his current deal dictates, which would make him a free agent in 2027. Such an extension would rocket him far above his current yearly salary of around $25mm, and no doubt well above Crosby's 35.5mm.

This is the way things go in the NFL nowadays, and if it can benefit one of the most prominent Texas A&M football stars in the league, then more power to him. Here's hoping Garrett finds the right situation— and the right contract— for him moving forward.
