Nic Scourton was one of the most heralded transfers into Texas A&M football in the 2024 season, and while he didn't put up quite the sack numbers that many Aggie fans had hoped for, he still led Texas A&M for the year. That, plus his game tape and overall pedigree, was enough to have him be a second-round pick from the Aggie program back in 2025, and he delivered as one of the Carolina Panthers' most promising players this past season.
That's why so many Panther fans were deflated to hear the news out of today's minicamp, where Nic Scourton apparently suffered a leg injury during practice that required him to be carted off. According to Cameron Wolfe of the NFL Network, Scourton suffered this injury during drills, but there was no word from Wolfe on whether it was due to contact or it was non-contact.
Nic Scourton was unable to put any pressure on his right leg. It appears significant. Trainers were looking at his right knee. Teammates near him were very emotional with their frustration.

Minutes ago, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Scourton suffered a torn ACL from the injury, reporting that it "left him in tears," as you would expect. Rapaport's report also includes that this means Scourton is done for the upcoming season.

Scourton was set to have a breakout year in his second NFL season. Most Panthers fans and pundits had him as one of the top players to watch on this roster to take a huge jump, showing just how significant this loss figures to be for the NFC South franchise.
Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer characterized Scourton as "in the Top 10 of players [the Panthers] couldn't afford to lose for any bit of time this season." That speaks volumes to how Scourton is perceived by the front office for this team— which only worsens the blow for Panther fans.
Rapaport's follow up to his first report includes the tidbit that Scourton will seek a second opinion to see if this truly is an ACL tear, but the way everything went down, it would be very surprising to see that second opinion overturn what appears to be a season-ending setback for the star pass rusher.
Scourton joined the Aggies in 2024 out of the transfer portal after attending high school in the Bryan/College Station area. Though a local product, he went to Purdue as a freshman and sophomore, and tied for the Big 10 lead in sacks that second season.
That pass-rush prowess made him an extremely high-value portal target, but he wasn't able to quite replicate those kinds of individual numbers down in College Station, though he was a force to be reckoned with. The defensive front as a committee did a good job of getting home, even if it wasn't Scourton every single time.
Even so, his talent was never ever in doubt, which led to becoming such a high draft choice. Hopefully, this won't be too big of a setback when it comes to his larger career— with the advances in medical science, players are better and better able to bounce back from these injuries in recent decades, and Aggie fans everywhere want to see Scourton do just that.
