Nic Scourton is about to show NFL why he should have been a first-rounder after Panthers decision

Scourton should have gone in the first round of this year's NFL draft, but after sliding to the middle of the second, he has a score to settle.

Nic Scourton becomes the second Texas A&M player to find his home in the 2025 NFL Draft after Shemar Stewart. The one-year Aggie is headed to the Carolina Panthers after being selected in the second round.

This is a slide from where Scourton was projected before the season. After leading the Big 10 in sacks at Purdue, Nic looked like he was poised to break out at A&M before being hampered by injury later on in the season.

Even with that injury, though, he still popped off the screen from time to time. Though his lack of production later on in the season, NFL GMs and scouts clearly saw that he was still a guy that could make some noise along defensive lines in the league.

Nic Scourton is about to wreck shop in Carolina after draft slide

Scourton has talked extensively about dropping some weight to reclaim some of his pass-rush prowess that wasn't always on display last year. Maybe if that sack number was a bit higher, he could have gone a few picks earlier to Dallas or Indianapolis, both of whom passed over him for other edge players, but Scourton will no doubt quickly demonstrate that overlooking him is a huge mistake.

On the other end of that, he's going to show Carolina fans that they just got a first-round value in a huge bargain. Scourton had been mocked as a top-10 selection before the season, and the form he showed to earn such a distinction is one that he can quickly reclaim.

Scourton will join another former Aggie in Demani Richardson up in Carolina. The Panthers already have a talented defensive line anchored by Derrick Brown in the middle, as well as a fellow former Aggie in Bobby Brown, so Scourton is headed to a great fit. The Panthers closed last season on a hot streak, so it looks like no. 11 for the Aggies is joining a squad on the upswing as well.

Here's hoping we see Scourton make some plays up in Charlotte as soon as this season. His ceiling is as high as any player in this draft, and he could very quickly become a household name in the NFL.
