Texas A&M football was not top of mind for many viewers of the Carolina Panthers vs. Cleveland Browns NFL Preseason game last night, but they became a storyline for sure. The Panthers boast several former Aggie defenders in Demani Richardson, Bobby Brown, and Nic Scourton, making them an intriguing watch for A&M fans in this upcoming year.
Most of the attention last night was on Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, as you might expect. Sanders was a massive storyline in the NFL draft thanks to his precipitous fall from his first-round projection, but it was the Browns— with whom he was initially expected to land far earlier in the draft— that eventually picked him up.
The size of the bet against him by seemingly every NFL franchise, as he continued un-picked for so long, combined with his national profile coming into the league, meant last night was about as big of a must-watch as any preseason game could be. And while Sanders played well, it was two Aggies who stuck out on the Carolina defense.
Nic Scourton and Demani Richardson both register sacks of Shedeur Sanders in NFL preseason
Demani Richardson has been making some noise in Charlotte for a while now, as he journeyed from UDFA status to a real contributor for the Panthers last year. From all indications, he's ready to continue his rise:

It wasn't just Richardson, however. Nic Scourton's career with the Panthers looks like it's ready to kick into high gear as well after going in the second round this past draft. Check out the high-motor effort on this play:

This is just a preseason game, of course, but it's good to see a couple of Ags getting their names called in a positive way here. Hopefully these two, along with defensive tackle Bobby Brown, can form a fearsome defense for the Panthers going forward this year.
