Philadelphia Eagles' latest roster cut will have Texas A&M fans fuming

There has to be more behind this.

Former Texas A&M WR Ainias Smith looked as fast at lightning at times in the preseason. The former fifth-round pick in 2024 won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles last season, but the Eagles wanted to see what more he had in 2025.

Ainias Smith was cut by the Eagles after an outstanding first game against the Bengals. He caught a touchdown and turned back a decent punt return against the Cincinnati Bengals. Smith is no doubt a speedster when he's out there, but some writers are saying that he didn't do enough to earn a spot.

Smith should no doubt have a spot on some NFL roster, but on a loaded team like the Eagles, it only spelled disaster from the beginning for him.

A crowded WR room in Philly was probably the culprit to cut Smith

Forget DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown. Smith had to get past Jahan Dotson, Johnny Wilson and newly signed receiver, John Metchie III. Signing Metchie III wasn't a good signal for the former Aggie, and it also made for more headlines among GM Howie Roseman getting another steal.

This was already a battle that Smith was going into, and this shows that the odds were stacked against him. There are plenty of fish in the sea, but it won't be long until Smith gets back on an NFL roster. His speed, versatility, and his ability to make quick cuts shouldn't be something overlooked by NFL GMs.

Smith was a major part of the Texas A&M offense that helped beat No. 1 Alabama back in 2021. A lot of quarterbacks have played with Smith over the past few years, but let's hope that he finds a home soon that he can stick with, because there should still be a lot more football left for him.
