Five bold predictions for Texas A&M football vs. Missouri: Weigman returns to begin huge run for Aggies
I’ve written several times about how much of a watershed moment this game is for Texas A&M football. After disappointing in the opener against a beatable Notre Dame squad, the Aggies are now facing yet another highly ranked yet beatable team. They can’t afford to have the same result.
To do that, though, the Aggies will need to be more than one-dimensional on offense, which is something that we’ve only seen in 1.5 games this year… and one of those was against McNeese. Can they crack the code of this Missouri defense in an early game at Kyle? I think they just might. Let’s get into predictions.
Weigman returns…
The rumor mill is churning hard, folks, and it’s turning out the… uh, the grist of… that Conner might play. That analogy kind of broke down. But in any case, this could be the game that we see no. 15 return for a chance at redemption. I’ve got no inside information on this one, but I do have a good feeling about it! And that’s basically just as good.
…And throws for 300+
Conner, if he does return, will be tested early and often by this Missouri team. They will still make the Aggies prove they can pass the ball against press man coverage. But ever since the first game, which was against maybe the best pass defense in the country, Klein has found a way to scheme guys open. If Weigman is back there, I see him connecting on some big throws early.
Aggies score on every RZ trip
This one may not be that bold of a prediction, as outside of the McNeese game (strangely enough), the Aggies have been 100% on scoring opportunities inside the 20. I think that streak continues against the Tigers.
Missouri held below 3 YPC
Nate Noel may be the most effective offensive weapon so far this season for the Tigers, but he’s about to run into a brick wall—one that has gotten sturdier week by week. It could be some seriously tough sledding for Noel against a defense that held the SEC’s leading rusher to 37 yards on 10 attempts last week. Not to mention that the pass rush for the Aggies seems to be revving up, and the Tigers have been susceptible so far against far lesser competition.
Burden breaks a big one
It kind of feels like the top receiver for the Tigers is due. He hasn’t quite had a breakout performance yet, though he’s been putting up solid numbers. A&M has given up at least one big, explosive play per week, so even though they’re getting better, I think Burden may punk them at least once.
