Big 10 Sacks Leader Commits to Texas A&M Football
Bryan, Texas, native and former Purdue defensive lineman Nic Scourton has officially committed to Texas A&M football. This was a recruitment that the Aggies had to have, given Scourton's stature, his provenance, and what the Aggies had lost from the defensive line in the portal thus far
Scourton is an immediate replacement for a guy like Fadil Diggs, and possibly even an upgrade given the type of numbers he was able to rack up in the Big 10. He possesses SEC-ready size at 6'4" and 280 LBs, and will fit right in on an Aggie defensive line that figures to be one of the most formidable units in the nation once again in 2024.
Elko's portal efforts have been extremely impressive so far, and this commitment is just further confirmation of that notion. Scourton was scheduled to visit other top programs, but called each of those off after stepping foot on campus for Texas A&M football.
Another tidbit, dropped by Ryan Brauninger of Texags during an interview with Scourton: Nic is blood related to Terry Bussey. Count this commitment as yet more ammunition for the Aggies' top recruit in the 2024 class to end up signing with Elko and company.
This is a massive pickup for Elko and the Aggies. Not only does Scourton boast the size of a DeMarvin Leal, but he has even more proven production than the former luminary for Texas A&M football. This is a high end, high impact signing at a position of need, and one that in all likelihood rounds out your starting four on the defensive line (pending Shemar Turner's decision, of course).
After the Aggies had some big names enter the portal from the defensive line, there weren't many guys the Maroon and White could have brought in that would be an upgrade. Scourton was one of them. This is quite the statement from Elko, Bateman, and Spencer.
From all indications, it won't be the last, either.
