Biggest transfer portal misses for Mike Elko and Texas A&M football in 2024

We take a look at the names that could have helped this Texas A&M football team the most in 2024—ones that the Aggies almost closed on.

Penn State wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith (1) motions to the crowd after scoring a touchdown on a 57-yard reception late in the fourth quarter of an NCAA football game against Indiana at Beaver Stadium Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, in State College, Pa. Lambert-Smith's touchdown broke a 24-24 tie and helped seal a 33-24 win for the Nittany Lions.

Transfer portal misses for Texas A&M football: WR Sam Brown

Another one that is top of mind for Texas A&M football fans is former Houston WR Sam Brown. In the spring portal window, after the news of Jabre Barber going down with an injury (one that he now seems to be recovering from much quicker than initially thought), Aggie fans were hoping for a big name at receiver to end up in College Station.

In contrast to Lambert-Smith, Brown seemed to be a quick, explosive slot archetype at wideout. That would have well filled the role that Ainias Smith has abdicated upon his move to the NFL and Barber seemed to have on lockdown before his injury, so many Aggie fans thus had their hearts set on Brown.

However, Brown, like Lambert-Smith, left his visit to College Station uncommitted. Not long after, Miami smoke began to get stronger and stronger—and he is now a member of the Hurricanes roster. Ain’t that just the way?

Of course, with the aforementioned news about Barber, the sting here is lessened quite a bit, but Brown would have still been a great addition to this roster.
