What to watch in Texas A&M football's spring game: Interior DL depth

As Aggie fans contemplate how the coaching staff will attack this spring portal window, one of the biggest areas of concern has to do with the depth in the middle of the defensive line. Though the Aggies boast a couple of high-profile recruits at the position in David Hicks and Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy, as well as veterans like Albert Regis, the depth took a hit following Elijah Robinson's departure.

Given the nature of the game, the depth will be tested up front. How will the depth pieces look along each line of scrimmage? Will we see a guy like Nic Scourton rotating down inside? Elko certainly made such a move several times with Shemar Turner in the one season he coached him—Scourton appears to be of that same build at this point in his career.

We could see some snaps from Wisconsin DL transfer Rodas Johnson here as well. A lower-profile pickup, Johnson could turn some heads with a big performance. I'm also anxious to see what the Aggies have in Samu Taumanupepe, now a redshirt freshman. His athletic prowess at his size could make for a dangerous combination.

The Aggies have already landed one defensive lineman from the portal during this window in UCF DL Josh Celiscar, but he plays more of an end position. We could come out of this spring game either feeling reassured about how things are going up front, or highly anxious to see more commitments from portal defensive tackles.
